The recording system control software serves various purposes:
▪ Configuration of the hardware (amplifier gains, filter settings, differential versus single-ended modes, sample rates, etc.); done by means of an easy-to-use graphical interface
▪ Screening for cells (in the case of electrophysiological recording); done with the help of a built-in ten-channel digital oscilloscope program
▪ Verification of consistent position tracking (in the case of spatial behavioural recording)
▪ Collection of data (various recording modes) and storage to disk
▪ Control of experimental apparatus during data collection; implemented using a simple script language which is very much like Visual BASIC
